HORNBY R2994XS OO SCALE BR 4-6-0 ‘Clun Castle’ Castle Class - Late BR with DCC Sound
In 1965 7029 Clun Castle worked the last official steam hauled train to leave the GWRs' Paddington station. Clun went on to be the star of the end of GWR steam, hauling many 'end of steam' railtours and fittingly entered preservation.
In the 1960s Clun Castle was a Gloucester engine, a shed that kept its' Castles in superb condition. She entered preservation looking like she was fresh from Swindon works and, after the final end of BR steam has remained active hauling mainline tours and on heritage railways. Returning to the mainline in the 1980s Clun Castle played a major role in the GWR 150 celebrations.
Hornby have chosen to model 7029 in the later BR lined green livery, as she carried while working from Gloucester in the 1960s and in preservation. The addition of a sound system will really make this a special model of a very special Castle. A standard bearer for GWR locomotives which is familiar to generations of steam enthusiasts.
