Scalextric is the most famous slot car brand in the world, almost everyone anywhere has heard of it. This company has been producing since 1952 when a company called Minimodels Limited was created. The brand name Scalextric (Scalex - electric) was unveiled at the annual Harrogate Toy Fair in 1957. Today Scalextric produces a wide range of slot cars from Formula 1 cars to rally cars.
Scalextric is the premier electrical model car racing system based on the 1/32nd scale. Cars are approximately 130mm in length and track layouts from the standard sets range from 2 metres x 1 metre to 3 metres x 2 metres. A track layout can be further expanded to any size using the extensive range of track pieces in our range. Scalextric is suitable for ages 7 and up and fun for all ages.
New for 2010 is the Scalextric Start range – these new sets have ultra fast track connections so you will be racing in no time, and super resistant cars so you can stay racing! Sets are available with Endurance, Rally and Grand Prix cars. The super resistant cars continue to be successful, with several additions to the range this year. With their lower weight these cars are very competitive on track and are popular with both newcomers and hardened racers alike.
The most recent development in slot car racing is digital control, which is the most significant update the hobby has seen since it began in the 1960s. This new Scalextric Sports Digital system gives the ability to run 6 cars on a two-lane track independently of each other. The digital base station on the side of the track sends digital signals to the cars giving them instructions. With the new system you control the speed of the car and when to change lane at change over points on the track. Each car has a digital decoder within it to process the signals.
